Fall Out Boy, and Weddings

* So I feel like I've fully absorbed Fall Out Boy's new album, Infinity on High. It's great. It's not quite as good as From Under the Cork Tree (F.U.C.T. for short), but seriously, could it have been? That album was just fantastic. Probably one of my favorite albums of all time. Just an incredible collection of great songs.

I've come to really admire FOB, and not just for their music. I love the way they name their songs; rather than going with the traditional "name it after the chorus", they go outside the box and throw something unexpected or even unrelated. They also do a great job of using the ridiculously long name, which I am also a big fan of (I've used this several times with basketball team names). Look, this is a band who named a song "Our Lawyers Made Us Change the Name of This Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued". The orignial title? "I Liked You a Whole Lot Better Before You Became a Fucking MySpace Whore". Now THAT is creative. Both of them.

Their videos are also outstanding. They do a great job of making fun of themselves, the music business, and society in general. The also tend to tell stories in their videos, which I've always loved. Nothing is more annoying to me a than a good song that just shows the band singing. Give me something to work with! FOB does. And if you haven't seen their video for The Carpal Tunnel of Love, well, thank me now for the link to some pure, unadulterated greatness. We know what a huge fan of the Happy Tree Friends I am.

I'm working on a "best of FOB" compilation right now. I'll let you know as soon as it's complete.

* The quote of the day today (how priceless is that? Not even I could make that shit up), and the nuptials of Matt Howell and Emily Weber this weekend (congratulations to both of them!) made me want to link to one of my favorite posts,
Things You Can Count On At Weddings. I'll be keeping an eye out at the wedding this weekend for these. :-) Enjoy!

Coupla Things...Quickie Edition...

* First, here is the link to the pics of the Second Annual Lockheed Martin 3 on 3 Championship. Thanks a lot to Kamari for taking such fantastic pictures, and thanks for everyone who came out and helped out the Boys & Girls Club of Grand Prairie.

* Okay, I can't resist: here are some of my favorite pics from the site, with commentary:

Tim dominated the tournament: Led in scoring a couple of games, rebounded, defended; he did it all for the championship team. However, Kamari just happened to get the time he took on Big Nate--and lost.

Sam is just beautiful to watch. There's really no other way to put it. I could have done an entire post of Sam pictures alone. This one, though, is the best. Look how high above the rim he is!

The ultimate "big versus little" pic.

Chad is not a dirty player by any stretch of the imagination. However, it happened that in about half of his pictures, he looked like he was hitting someone. This is no exception.

In spite of all of the incredible action shots Kamari took, this is probably my favorite picture. It looks like something you'd see on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Just a great shot of Eric.

Here's Kamari getting Jonathan to bite on a headfake. Who took this picture since it's of Kamari? That would be yours truly. And yes, I'm going to ignore the other ten of Kamari that I took that I messed up, and go with these. :-)

Kamari's favorite pic of the tournament. I didn't get the block. I didn't know I could still jump that high.

No foul there.

And, finally, here's a nice group pic. It's at the end of the tournament, so some people had left already. I won't point out winky. ;-)

* Kal Penn is teaching a class at Penn? So many questions: Is it a spoof off of his last name? Is the class going to be teaching kids the best ways to smoke weed? Will he also moonlight as a "party liason"? And most importantly, where do I sign up?

* "I think I might actually start watching Dancing With The Stars 3."
"Have you finally gone gay on us," you ask?
"No, not yet," I reply. "It's because Paulina Porizkova is in it!"
"Who the Hell is that?" you ask.
"The star of one of my favorite movies of all time, Her Alibi!" I shout enthusiastically.

"God you're weird," you say.

"Yeah," I happily admit.

* And, finally, TMNT was great. Very good movie. I keep reading reviews that say it isn't any good. I have no idea what they're talking about. It's a good quality flick, and I'm looking forward to seeing Shredder return in the next one. Go on out and see it! Turtle fans everywhere will be happy.
